Cajun Things to Try in 2018!

There are some delicious (and exciting) ways to live your life a little more “like a Cajun” this year. A few tourism friends tossed out some ideas for Cajun things you must try and Cajun places you must visit in 2018!

Houma – Eats and Drinks
Have a craving for Cajun seafood? Houma has you covered with the new Cajun Critters. This comfortable and casual eatery specializes in boiled and fried fresh seafood in a casual atmosphere. Every good meal needs a good drink, so make your way to historic downtown Houma for Spigots Brew Pub. Serving only house-made beers alongside Cajun-inspired dishes, this is a great way to end a day of adventure in Bayou Country.

Iberia Parish – Spice up Your Life
Come celebrate the 150th anniversary of Tabasco® brand Pepper Sauce and the founding of Iberia Parish. Check in at the Isle of Iberia RV resort or the new Bayou House on Bayou Teche. Take the expanded Tabasco factory tour and get a taste of Cajun delicacies at Restaurant 1868 and Pelicans on the Bayou. Satisfy your inner bookworm and art lover at the Books Along the Teche Literary Festival and Shadows-on-the-Teche Plein Air Competition.

Lafourche – Off the Eatin' Path: Cajun Bayou Food Trail
Beginning in May, plan a visit to Louisiana’s Cajun Bayou in Lafourche Parish to experience the Cajun Bayou Food Trail.  Here you won’t find chicken and sausage gumbo or softshell crab on any map. And just try entering boudin balls into your GPS. In Lafourche, you will experience the heart and soul of Cajun cooking, rooted in generations of traditions and family recipes. But, this one-of-a kind adventure can only be found if you’re willing to go out of your way and wander off the beaten path. Or as we prefer to say in Lafourche Parish, off the eatin’ path. Plan your visit at www.lacajunbayou.com.

On the Water in Lake Charles, LA!
In Lake Charles, LA, the water is in the name, and it’s part of who we are. Everyone in Southwest Louisiana loves to get on the water, fish, kayak and paddleboard. You just can’t separate Cajuns from the water, and there are outdoor adventures to be had. You can go paddle-boarding or glide out on the water to see birds, alligators and lilies in the natural habitat with Grosse Savanne Eco-tours. After a day in the sun, kick back with a brew at Lake Charles’ original Crying Eagle Brewing Company before visiting the Creole Nature Trail the next day!
