Catch an Adventure on the Louisiana Coast

There’s a reason Louisiana is referred to as a Sportsman’s Paradise. With outstanding outdoor adventure around every corner with expert guides and outfitters available, Louisiana’s Coast is your place to get outside. Here’s a few of our favorite ways to catch an adventure.

Cajun Coast

The variety of fishing in the Morgan City, Franklin area sets us apart from other fishing destinations along the coast.  We are the southernmost gateway to the Atchafalaya Basin, the largest overflow swamp in the US and home to some of the best freshwater fishing around, a favorite for serious freshwater anglers.   Saltwater and brackish water provides some of the finest habitat for redfish, speckled trout and other saltwater varieties.  If those areas don’t interest you, you’re only a few miles from some of the greatest offshore fishing to be found.  Boat, kayak, canoe or standing on land, fishing on the Cajun Coast won’t disappoint.

Houma Area

It’s not a fish story in Houma. Variety is the word for this fishing scene, as within a short drive the avid angler can go from casual casting in lakes and bayous, to fighting redfish in the brackish coastal marshes to deep water sport fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. With over 50 charter fishermen specializing in everything from family fishing trips to scuba diving, Houma has your day covered. For a truly unique experience, check out Rising Son Bowfishing with Jay Paul Molinere of History Channel’s Swamp People.  Your expert captain can teach the skills of archery to fishermen of any skill level and insure a night filled with adventure.

Iberia Parish

Plan your next outdoor adventure in Iberia Parish, home to two state parks with bountiful fishing and wildlife sighting opportunities. Cypremort Point State Park offers easy access to the Gulf of Mexico with a fishing pier, beach area, birding, camping, cabin rentals and gorgeous sunsets on the water. If hiking and kayaking is more your thing, plant your tent, park your RV or rent a cabin at Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, which is adjacent to the Atchafalaya Basin, one of the great natural wonders in North America. Activities include boat rentals, hiking, biking, fishing, a water playground, birding and camping.

Lake Charles

Opportunity abounds when it comes to fishing in the Lake Charles area. Freshwater fishing, brackish or saltwater fishing, pier fishing, and surf-fishing on the beaches, if you have a boat or if you’ve hired a guide, go fishing in the Gulf of Mexico or deep in the marsh. Along the Creole Nature Trail, variety is the spice of life and the options are endless. Few destinations offer anglers the opportunity to chase everything from bass and crappie when fishing in freshwater, or redfish, speckled trout, and flounder – otherwise known as the “Cajun Grand Slam” – when inland saltwater fishing.

Northshore

Your source for Louisiana outdoor recreation, you’ll find fishing bait and tackle, crabbing bait and supplies, hunting ammunition and gear, camping supplies, their own branded bug spray, kegs for your party, even breakfast, lunch or dinner from their on-site restaurant, Bayou Kitchen. Lafourche Parish

In Louisiana's Cajun Bayou, Lafourche Parish, the possibilities for a exciting fishing adventure are endless. One unique way to experience the bayou is bowfishing! Bowfishing takes place at night when you set out with a charter fishing captain through the marshes and bayous. Boats are equipped with lights that eluminate the water to help you see where the fish are swimming. Bow and arrows are used to spear and catch them. You can find a list of charter fishermen here
