Lafourche Parish Offers a Southern Louisiana Cuisine Experience

Lafourche Parish is situated just a few miles south of Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The parish offers a true Cajun dining experience rich in jambalaya, gumbo, red beans and rice, po’boy sandwiches, crawfish étouffée and pecan pie, along with red beans and rice. Recognized for its traditional Southern cuisine, the parish offers a variety of authentic restaurants at every level of eating, from casual to fine dining.

Fremin’s Restaurant
Open since 1998, and located on West Third Street in Thibodaux, Fremin’s Restaurant is operated by the Fremin brothers. They serve a menu of rich Italian-Creole flavors. Their dinner appetizers include shrimp spring rolls, calamari, seared scallops, shrimp & grits, and smoked chicken mac & cheese. Soups include smoked duck, Andouille gumbo, seafood gumbo, and onion soup. Entrées include Black Angus rib eye, rack of lamb, seafood Napoleon, along with chicken or veal marsala, parmigiano, and picatta.

Flanigan’s Restaurant
Flanigan’s Restaurant is also operated by the Fremin brothers. Located on Audubon Avenue in Thidodaux, it offers an extensive menu with appetizers that include shrimp & artichoke dip, Bayou crab cakes, seafood stuffed mushrooms, and a fried vegetable platter. Daily soup for lunch and dinner include chicken & sausage gumbo, seafood gumbo, and cream of crab meat soup. The entrées are filet mignon, rib eye, and boneless pork chops. Poultry includes pecan chicken, and chicken Salvatora.

Spahr’s Seafood Restaurant
Spahr’s Seafood Restaurant is located on West Fourth Street in Thibodaux. They offer a wide assorted menu of Louisiana Southern comfort food. This includes appetizers such as crab fingers, cheese sticks, onion sticks, stuffed mushrooms, Bayou shrimp, and a sampler platter. Their daily soups include seafood gumbo and crawfish cream.

They serve daily salads including seared ahi, chicken tenders and seafood. Seafood entrées include catfish fillets, stuffed crab, fried crawfish, fried oysters, soft-shell crab (in season), seafood platter, crawfish stew, and grilled Yellow Fin tuna. Their extensive list of po’boy sandwiches includes fried oyster, catfish, soft-shell crab and beef. They also serve hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken tenders and grilled cheese.

The Casa Del Sol
Located on Westover Drive in Thibodaux, the Casa Del Sol restaurant is family owned and established back in 1976. Their extensive Mexican menu includes traditional Mexican favorites including enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, tamales, chili rellenos, chimichangas, burritos, and tostadas. The seafood chimichangas is a local favorite that includes a flour tortilla loaded with shrimp, crawfish, and Louisiana crab, smothered in a decadent cream sauce. They also serve flautas and enmoladas (enchiladas topped with mole sauce and cheese).

Their charbroiled favorites include carne asada, fajitas, rib eye steaks, fillet medallions, huevos rancheros and tacos al carbon. They also serve a variety of sandwiches including chicken, hamburgers, and fajita beef tortas.

New Garden Restaurant
Located on St. Mary Street (Highway 1) in Thibodaux, the New Garden Restaurant specializes in vegetarian, pork, beef, chicken and seafood dishes. They offer an extensive lunch and dinner menu along with an expanded buffet. Traditional luncheon specialties include Imperial chicken, mandarin chicken, sweet-and-sour chicken, shrimp with lobster sauce, and General Tso’s chicken. Soups include egg drop, wonton, hot & sour, chicken & corn, house noodle and vegetable.

The extensive dinner menu includes traditional chef specialties such as cashew chicken, kung pow chicken, pepper chicken or steak, chop suey, Mongolian beef, imperial shrimp, curried shrimp, seafood islander, kung pow shrimp and shrimp egg foo young.
