Can’t Miss Dining Options in St. Bernard Parish

St. Bernard Parish is situated on the southeast side of New Orleans along the eastern coastline of Louisiana. A portion of St. Bernard Parish is considered to be part of the metropolitan area of New Orleans that also includes Kenner and Metairie. While Chalmette is the parish seat, there are no other incorporated areas located in the parish. However, there are numerous unincorporated small communities from Shell Beach to Delacroix Island along the eastern portion and Versailles and Violet located in the greater New Orleans area.

Like the rest of New Orleans, St. Bernard Parish is known for its quality dining experience. Here are some of the “can’t miss” dining options in St. Bernard Parish:

Brewster’s Restaurant

Brewster’s Restaurant is located on Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette, St. Bernard Parish. As a familiar hotspot in the town, they serve a variety of food and spirits. These include Jalapeno Poppers and Crawfish Pie along with Spinach and Artichoke Dip. Their entrées include T-bone steak, filet mignon, pork chops, charbroiled chicken, Chicken Cordon Bleu and yellow fin tuna. They also serve a variety of sandwiches including chicken breast, burgers, pork chops, tuna filet, rib eye steak and grilled ham sandwiches.

Café Roma

For residents and visitors eager for tasty Italian specialties and pizzas, Café Roma is it. Located on Paris Rd., in Chalmette, Café Roma serves fried calamari, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, jalapeno poppers, cheese bread and vegetable and fruit empanadas, along with chicken wings. In keeping with the South Louisiana flair, Café Roma serves shrimp pizza with a large sampling of shrimp, roasted chopped garlic and fresh basil.

Ben’s Pizza

Ben’s Pizza is situated on Judge Perez Drive in Meraux, Louisiana. They offer a variety of traditional round and all square pizzas, along with calzones, knots, pasta, hero sandwiches and salads. Open every day of the week except Sunday, Ben’s Pizza restaurant serves traditional New Orleans style mufalettas, along with stuffed artichokes, traditional Po’ Boy sandwiches and grilled chicken salads.

Lee-VI’s Po Boy Restaurant

As a local favorite in St. Bernard Parish, Lee-Vi’s Po Boy Restaurant is on St. Bernard Highway in Violet, Louisiana. Open every day of the week, except Mondays, Lee-Vi’s is known throughout eastern Louisiana for having the best roast beef po boy in the state. Using soft toasted leidenheimer bread, and slow cooked gravy, this Louisiana po boy sandwich favorite is served traditional style. Lee-Vi’s po boy restaurant is located right along the Mississippi River below Chalmette and Meraux just north of Poydras. It is well worth the trip.

Plantation Bar and Grill

Since 1981, the Vucinovich family has served New Orleans style food at the Plantation Bar and Grill. Situated on Judge Perez Drive, in Meraux, Louisiana, this delightful grill offers an extensive menu that includes eggplant sticks, battered and fried onion pedals, delicious crab cakes, spinach and artichoke dip, po boy sandwiches, pasta, seafood and steaks. It is important not to leave the Plantation Bar and Grill without trying at least one of their delectable desserts. Located just minutes away from the Mississippi River, they are open seven days a week.

Rocky & Carlo’s Bar & Restaurant

An iconic institution in Chalmette, Louisiana, the Rocky & Carlos’s Bar & Restaurant is on St. Claude Avenue (West St. Bernard Highway). They offer a fine variety of New Orleans style classic dishes, along with Sicilian favorites that include real Parmesan-baked traditional style macaroni and cheese. Most of their dishes are available with red or brown gravy.

St. Bernard Parish offers a variety of dining experiences just minutes away from downtown New Orleans. Even though many portions of the parish were devastated during Hurricane Katrina, most of the restaurants have fully recovered and are again open for business.
